A former St. Louis County Police officer said news of Blake Snyder death produced a range of emotion for current and former officers.

Geriann Brandt told News 4, “It is this incredible sucker punch to your stomach, then you feel sick and then you cry and then you get incredibly angry because it was completely senseless."

Brandt is the director of the criminal justice program at Maryville University. She worked 13 years at the St. Louis County Police Department as a dispatcher and officer. She said
her husband recently retired after 34 ½ years at the department and their daughter is a 6-year veteran.

Brandt said it’s normal for officers to think about the dangers of the job and wonder if they could be killed in the line of duty. But she said officers have to set those thoughts
aside when it comes time to put their uniforms on and go to work. “Is it going through your mind? Yes, but you cannot dwell on it or you will never do this job."

She said before officers go to work, their family members are hugging them a little tighter these days.
