ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is traveling to London to court British Airways. Slay plans to meet with the airline on Monday.

Before boarding his flight, which connects in Detroit, Slay told Chris Nagus, "I'm bringing a stack of letters from top CEO's in the region."

Since the loss of TWA, then the American hub, St. Louis has been without direct air service to Europe. Slay noted, "this is the time to make the case and that's why I'm going to be there."

Slay says a member of the British House of Lords, Lord Paul, will help make the case. The mayor says, "He is somebody who has a lot of interest in the US and in St. Louis. He has moved his headquarters for the division of his company Bullmoose into Grand Center. He loves St. Louis. He's going to help us pitch this."

The mayor will be in London through next Friday.
