ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com)-  All lanes of Fifth Street under Interstate 70 will close for two days starting the morning of Monday, October 10.

The road closures will help improve traffic flow, as well as easier access to and from Interstate 70 at the very busy Fifth Street interchange. As well as improving safety surrounding attractions such as the Ameristar Casino and Historic Main Street.

A full schedule of the closure, as well as detour routes are below:

One lane in both directions of Fifth Street at Interstate 70 will close Friday, October 7 at 7 a.m.  The lanes will remain closed though the weekend so the road can be milled in preparation for the new pavement.

On Monday, October 10 all lanes of northbound and southbound Fifth Street between Ameristar Boulevard/Bass Pro Shops and South Main Street will be closed (local traffic only will be allowed up to the residences off South Fifth Street).  Crews will begin closing lanes around 3 a.m. with all lanes and ramps closed by 7 a.m.  Traffic will not be able to cross under I-70 during the closure.  In addition, all I-70 exit and entrance ramps will be closed which means there will be no access on or off the interstate at Fifth Street.  The right lane on westbound I-70 before Fifth Street will also be closed.

The lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by Wednesday, October 12 at 7 a.m.  The Fifth Street ramp to westbound I-70, which has been closed since May, is expected to reopen.  After Wednesday, one lane on southbound Fifth Street will remain closed for about three weeks.  When that lane reopens, crews will close one lane on northbound Fifth Street for about three weeks.

These closures are necessary to shift traffic lanes into the new diverging diamond configuration. For more information on road closures and alternative detours, check the MoDot website.
