Eads Bridge to close for celebration Friday

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The Eads Bridge will be closed to traffic for a portion of the day Friday for a special celebration.

The bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. while a celebration to mark the completion of the first full-scale rehabilitation of the 142-year-old bridge takes place.

U.S. Senator Richard Durbin, U.S. Representative William “Lacy” Clay Jr., U.S. Representative Michael Bost, St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern, East St. Louis Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks, and representatives from the Federal Transit Administration, Metro Transit and Bi-State Development will be in attendance. The East St. Louis marching band and the University City High School marching band will perform at the event. There will also be lunch and beverages for purchase.

Those wishing to attend the event can reach the celebration site by walking to the middle of the bridge using the pedestrian walkway. There will also be shuttles that will operate from the west end of the bridge in Missouri and the East Riverfront MetroLink Station in Illinois.
