While Washington University in St. Louis is busy preparing to play host to the presidential candidates for Sunday's debate, the surrounding neighborhoods are prepping for the thousands of media and campaign staff that follow them.

One hot spot for the masses is expected to be in the Delmar Loop.

"People in the Loop love to talk about music, they love to talk about art, and they love to argue politics," said Joe Edwards, president of Loop Special Business District. "It's so great to have a debate. Once you hear that word, oh, here they come!"

With 3,000 members of the media expected to converge on the area, everyone has to find a place to eat and sleep.

Edwards said his Moonrise Hotel was fully booked long ago with national and international media looking for a close place to stay.  Many of the restaurants, including Blueberry Hill, are having drink specials to play up the debate spirit.

"Things are busy right up until the day of the debate and then all the journalists and media people hunker down right on campus and just eat sandwiches. After it's over, they come and party," said Edwards.

During the debate, Edwards expects an active atmosphere around the Loop. He said people will come from around the St. Louis area and region to be closer to the action. Many will join watch parties in the restaurants but a few others sharing their take on the politics and politicians debating just down the street at Wash U.

"There are usually a few groups that will walk up and down and promote their cause and it's kind of fun. It keeps it lively and just shows how free we are in American to voice our opinions in a peaceful way," said Edwards.
