ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - An incoming member of the Missouri Legislature has accused a new member of the House of Representatives of raping her.

In a letter sent to legislative leaders, Cora Faith Walker claims she reported a sexual assault to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and named her rapist as Steven Roberts, Jr.

Roberts' attorney, Scott Rosenblum told News 4 the allegations were unfounded, "We're in a position where I'm cooperating, we're working with police to give them what I would consider documentary evidence to establish not only are these accusations unfounded but they're actually false."

In a statement released by Roberts, he claims "Mrs. Walker and I had been intimate in the past before August, and our contact had been increasing over the last year as we campaigned for our respective offices."

Cora Faith Walker won the primary election for the 74th District and has no opposition in the general election. Roberts won the primary election for the 77th District and also has no opposition in the general election. Both are Democrats.

In a letter to Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson, Walker is asking that Roberts not be allowed to be sworn in until the police investigation is complete.

In a statement released by Representative Richardson, he didn't comment on Walker's request but called the allegations "Extremely serious and disturbing," and said, "We will monitor the criminal investigation closely and continue to have a zero tolerance policy for sexual assault, misconduct and harassment."

Roberts is the son of well-known developer and business owner Steven Roberts, Sr. In 2015, the younger Roberts was accused of sexual assault but was not charged because of insufficient evidence. He also worked as an assistant prosecutor for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office but was fired in October of 2015 for poor job performance.

News 4 reached out to Walker to request a sit down interview about her allegations but she has not responded.
