BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The campaign of Republican candidate for Missouri governor, Eric Greitens launched an attack on Democrat Chris Koster, accusing him of failing on the issue of violence against women.

A group of Greitens' supporters gathered at the Brentwood Community Center to call Koster out for voting "no" in 2007 for a bill to protect the privacy of rape victims and not require them to pay for their own rape kits.

Koster's campaign called it "ludicrous", saying Koster voted "no" because the bill also contained a blanket provision that could allow convicted murderers tried decades earlier to get out of prison.

A Koster spokesman says as Attorney General, Koster sponsored stronger penalties for sex offenders and to protect the victims of domestic violence.

A new poll from the Missouri Times shows Koster with a 16-point lead in race for Missouri governor.

Both candidates will meet in a debate on September 30 at 1 p.m. in Branson.
