ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department arrested a suspect in a car break-in in Imperial that was caught on surveillance cameras. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft and booked into the jail but was later released pending application for warrants.

Jeff Sonntag told News 4 that his surveillance cameras recorded the man snooping around his front yard near Miller Road and Gelena Court for thirty minutes early in the morning on September 19th. The cameras also recorded the man breaking into Sonntag’s truck and stealing a handgun from the center console.

Around the same time there was a rash of car break-ins in several neighborhoods in Imperial and Eureka. Detectives arrested three suspects and recovered over 90 stolen items from that string of car burglaries but they don’t believe the thief that broke into Sonntag’s truck is connected to the other theft suspects.

Sonntag said he was contacted by sheriff’s department investigators to see if they’d recovered any of his stolen property but they hadn’t. He told News 4 that he was beefing up his security system in the wake of the break-in.
