ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Police are searching for multiple suspects after a 34-year-old woman and 37-year-old man were attacked with a tree limb Sunday evening.

The couple were outside the woman’s home in the 3700 block of Virginia when they saw a group of men harassing a teenage girl around 6:10 p.m.

Police said the 34-year-old woman yelled at the men to stop harassing the girl. Moments later, an unknown woman approached the couple and struck them multiple times in the head with a tree limb.

Monica Jackson lives nearby and cannot believe something like this happened.

“It makes me upset that we live in a neighborhood where you can’t speak out, give you opinion when something going wrong and you want to tell and protect your neighbor and you’re the one that retaliated on,” said Jackson. “There better be justice. There needs to be justice. That's outrageous.”

According to reports, the female suspect along with more than a dozen men continued to punch the couple and assault them with unknown items.

All suspects left the scene before police arrived.

Both victims sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital.

“I hate to see anybody attacked like that with an uneven odds… 15 against one or two? That’s ridiculous and it’s not fair,” said Robert Stout.

The 34-year-old woman was listed in stable condition. The 37-year-old man was listed in critical but stable condition with an injury to his head.

The investigation is ongoing.
