Man accused of DWI after Farmington couple killed in crash

BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - A couple from Farmington, Missouri was killed Sunday afternoon after a pickup truck being driven by a man suspected of driving under the influence hit their motorcycle. 

The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victims Richard J. Augustine, 58 and Debra Smith, 60. 

At around 3:30 p.m., Augustine and Smith were traveling westbound on Missouri Highway 72, when a Dodge Ram pickup, being driven by 49-year-old Paul E. Patton, crossed the center line and struck them head-on. Both occupants of the motorcycle, who were wearing helmets, were ejected.

Augustine and Smith were pronounced dead on the scene around 3:50 p.m. 

Patton was not injured in the crash. 

Following the crash, Patton was taken into custody for two counts of felony involuntary manslaughter.

The crash happened about two miles west of the Patton area, an unincorporated community in northern Bollinger County.
