TRENTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported home invasion that left two people injured.

Early Sunday morning, police were called to a mobile home off of Highway 50 in between Trenton and Aviston for a report of two armed men breaking into a home.

Sharon Harris, who lives a few homes down, said she was woken up early in the morning by a woman knocking on her door.

“She came knocking on the door screaming, ‘let me in please call the police, please call the police,'” said Harris. “She said two guys came to the door and shot the door out and hit me with the gun.”

Police said two people inside the home where the break-in happened were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

Investigators have not yet given a motive for the break-in, but neighbor Jennifer Bagwell said, while she’s concerned about the violent crime, she still feels safe in her home.

“I think it’s more of a personal thing as opposed to a random act so I’m not too worried and plus cops patrol out here so I think we’re pretty safe,” said Bagwell.

Police closed the road outside the crime scene for several hours Sunday morning. They have not yet released a description of the suspects they’re searching for.
