Champaign, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A fatal shooting on the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana campus has left one person dead, and four others injured.

Police are currently investigating the scene of a shooting that took place overnight.

The shooting occurred around 12:38 a.m. in the 300 block of Green Street, between Second and Fourth Street in Champaign, Ill.

When police arrived on the scene, four victims were found with gunshot wounds. They were transported to area hospitals.

One of the victims, George Korchev, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The three other victims at the scene received non-critical injuries.

A fifth victim ran from the scene of the shooting, but was struck by a vehicle. The condition of the four injured victims remains unknown.

The driver did not stay at the scene.

According to the Illini-Alert Twitter page, the shooter left the area following the shooting. People were instructed to avoid that area for the time being.

Police said preliminary investigations suggests an argument took place during a party at an apartment on E. Green Street. The argument moved outside, then escalated to the point where shots were fired.

Those injured at the scene were not involved in the fight.

Around 30 minutes later, police received another call just after 1:00 a.m. for gunfire in the 700 block of S. State Street. Officers found a victim at the scene with a gunshot wound. They were transported to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

Police believe the two incidents could be related.

Authorities are looking for suspects involved in both shootings and the driver involved in the vehicle accident.
