HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A teen is in custody after his vehicle slid into a crowd of people Saturday morning.

Hazelwood Police said a 2001 Ford Mustang slid into several people waiting for the Annual Hazelwood West Homecoming Parade on Saturday morning.

Nine people were transported to the hospital. Police said none of those transported appeared to have suffered life-threatening injuries. Although, police said some injuries are serious.

"I heard tires squealing and a small crash. Then I heard people screaming," said Susan Strebeck, who was in the crowd. "The girl was up on the sidewalk and people are laying around and other people are rushing to help and all the policemen started coming."

Police said none of the nine injured are students, staff members, or faculty of Hazelwood West High School. But they are members of the community.

Police said there were no fatalities in the crash.

Hazelwood West Director of Communications and Media Relations Kimberly McKenzie said the homecoming parade was cancelled due to safety reasons.

The accident occurred near Lynn Haven just before the parade arrived.

Police said the driver of the Mustang, a 17 year-old male, was driving in a "careless and imprudent manner" on southbound Howdershell Road. The teen then struck a vehicle pulling out of a parking lot onto southbound Howdershell, causing the Mustang to lose control and drive onto the sidewalk.

The teen is charged with Carless and Imprudent Driving and Second Degree Assault. A warrant will be made through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Hazelwood Department Traffic Unit is currently handling the investigation of this accident.
