(KMOV.com) - Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating a burglary at Precision Lawn and Landscaping in the Dittmer area of Jefferson County.

Thieves broke in Wednesday night around 9:30 pm and stole thousands of dollars in equipment. Owner Mark Dennis told News 4, "(It's) frustration, knowing that crews have to work that day, they're here on time to do their work and their equipment's not here."

Investigators say two thieves drove up to the business, but only one got out, cut the barbed wire on a fence and climbed over the fence to get onto the property. Surveillance video shows him using bolt cutters to get into a storage trailer where he stole 4 Stihl string trimmers, 3 Stihl backpack leaf blowers and 1 Stihl edger.

The business sits near the border with Franklin County so News 4 checked with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department where investigators tell us they’ve seen in increase in thefts of lawn care equipment from businesses recently.

Plus Franklin County Sheriff’s detectives say that Stihl brand pieces of equipment are “hot” items with thieves right now and Stihl lawn care equipment is often stolen in burglaries at businesses and the unattached sheds behind homes.

Dennis says he plans to take steps to avoid being the victim of a break-in again. "We're going to enhance security measures,” he said.

Jefferson County investigators say the surveillance video is good enough that they should be able to identify the suspect caught on camera.
