SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Some parents in south St. Louis County say they are on edge after a report of a mysterious car at a bus stop.

A fifth grader who attends Oakville Elementary School says strangers who were in a car got his attention after he got off the bus from school on September 21.

One parent of an Oakville Elementary School student said, “It's a little unsettling at this point. We don't know all the facts, we believe we live in a safe neighborhood and then something like this happens."

Parents near the bus stop at Cathedral and Mild Drives say they are worried, especially when they heard the news from school officials.

“He [the boy] said there was a car parked, a dull red Sedan that was parked on the street,” said Dr. Brian Lane, Deputy Superintendent.

Parents said the car did not have license plates. School officials said the way the boy explained the situation, the man and woman in the car offered him a drink and then a ride.

“The student said, ‘No,’ and then according to the student the people in the car asked him to get into the vehicle. At that point he did the right thing and began running home,” said Dr. Lane.

The boy was not hurt and the car disappeared, according to parents.

But, parents are fearing for their child's safety after they received an email about the incident. The email went to Oakville parents as well as two other nearby schools.

"This could have been an isolated incident but we just need to be very careful," a parent said.

School officials say the principal of Oakville Elementary School rode the bus with the fifth grader, making sure he got home safely.

According to district officials, police are keeping a close eye out for the red car in the neighborhood.
