JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials say a 46-year-old woman stole three vehicles and attempted to steal another six, including one with a baby inside.

Investigators say the car theft spree started at a trailer park off Miller Road, south of Arnold and all the thefts and attempted thefts happened in one day.

Rose Miller says she witnessed the woman get in the car with the child, "just got in the car like it was hers." The woman was stopped before she could drive away.

Witnesses say the suspect repeatedly got into the cars of parents who were waiting at a bus stop with their children. Miller says the woman got in her car too, "I'm like, excuse me you have to get out of that vehicle, this is mine, it isn't yours."

Sheriff's officials say the woman eventually drove off in a car but was arrested after she stopped a short distance away.

"And they called the police to tell them there was some woman down there wasn't acting right, was acting kinda crazy," said Miller.

The woman was booked into the Jefferson County Jail and then released pending application for warrants.

When she was released, it is believed that suspect walked three blocks to the First Baptist Church where she stole a pickup and drove to the Barnhart area. Investigators believe she then drove the pickup to the 7000 block of Old Highway 21 where she parked it and stole a Ford Focus.

Investigators say the woman was next spotted in the 8400 block of Old Missouri Highway 21 where she allegedly abandoned the stolen car and attempted to steal two SUVs but failed. She was arrested by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and booked into the county jail for the second time that day.

The suspected female car thief was also released after her second arrest, pending application for warrants.
