Year after tax increase Kirkwood residents see noticeable difference in emergency response

Posted: Updated:

Kirkwood, Mo. (KMOV) -- The Kirkwood Fire Department is attributing its improved service to a tax increase residents agreed to last year.

The quarter-cent sales tax hike was for fire and ambulance services.

The fire department said the city's ambulance services have improved greatly. From the funds generated, the department was able to purchase a new ambulance for the fleet, which has improved response time by nearly 11 percent. Additionally, seven new firefighters-paramedics have been hired. Six of them have personally taken part in clinical saves of cardiac victims.
