Two Lafayette High School seniors are preparing for the All-National Symphony Orchestra performance.
Christine Shao and Nathaniel Ho will travel to Texas in November to perform with 148 other students from across the country.
Both students recorded auditions in May and were notified in June that they had been selected.
Rockwood is the only school district in Missouri to have two students selected.
While Shao started playing the violin in the fourth grade, Ho picked up the viola just three years ago.
While it took a lot of practice and hard work to earn this honor, both say the secret to playing well is to feel each note.
"I mean even at school performances my fingers are really cold and sweaty too, but once you get involved with the music you just kind of forget about everything," said Shao.
"It’s more of a more feeling. You can feel how the music ebbs and flows within yourself. It feels like there is a power that is shared between everybody else," said Ho.
