WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A suspect was captured leading police on a high-speed chase after an attempted armed robbery in Washington Park.

Washington Park police say they received a call about an armed suspect at the Mobil gas station at 1441 Kingshighway in Washington Park. Mobil employees believe the suspect was at the gas station to commit a robbery.

While police were driving to the gas station, the suspect was leaving the Mobil in a car.

Officers say they noticed the vehicle in the 4800 block of Caseyville Avenue. As the officers approached the car, the suspect sped off.

Washington Park police say they lost sight of the vehicle as it traveled west on I-64 towards St. Louis.

As officers were driving back to Washington Park, they heard on radio traffic that the suspect was in St. Louis City.

The officers then turned around and headed to East St. Louis. News 4 captured part of the chase on dashcam video.

The suspect crashed into a utility pole on 9th and Broadway in East St. Louis.

Police say the driver was transported by ambulance for injuries. The passenger was taken into custody.

Charges are pending on the driver, according to authorities.
