(KMOV.com) – Police and and a handful of concerned citizens rushed to the rescue of a man trapped in a fiery crash in North Carolina before firefighters could get to the scene.

The entire incident was caught on the officers’ body cameras.

The driver of the pick-up was pinned inside the vehicle and the fire was spreading quickly, according to authorities.

Chris Owens, a Good Samaritan said, “He was saying the guy was stuck in the vehicle. We just went to it, trying to help him out, put the fire out, got crowbars to try and pry open the doors because it was stuck, it wedged him in."

After several minutes, firefighters got on the scene and were able to get the man out from the vehicle. They say the efforts of the police officers and bystanders to keep the flames away from him probably saved the driver’s life.
