CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The discovery of old bones, possibly from a Native American community hundreds of years ago, have halted work at a new subdivision site in suburban St. Louis.

Chesterfield officials say work was halted Tuesday to allow state archaeologists to examine the location. Experts say the Chesterfield area was home to many Native American communities.

The bones were found in freshly overturned earth. City administrator Mike Geisel says the state historic preservation office will tell then city when construction can resume.
