2 arrested after accident in south St. Louis

SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Two people are in custody after an accident in south St. Louis occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

According to police, officers were in the area when they spotted two suspects enter a Dodge Charger that had been reported as stolen. The car pulled into a gas station and the driver exited the car and went inside. The second suspect noticed the officers, jumped into the driver's seat, put the vehicle in reverse and struck the detective's vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene and was involved in an accident when the Charger struck a taxi cab near the intersection of Tucker and Lafayette in the LaSalle Park neighborhood.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended by police. Authorities said the suspect was in possession of heroin when he was arrested. Additionally three firearms, including one that was stolen, were found inside the vehicle.

The suspect that had gone into the gas station was taken into custody without incident.

Both suspects had active warrants. 

The investigation is ongoing.
