ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A St. Louis mother and son were found stabbed to death in their north St. Louis home Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene in the 3900 block of St. Ferdinand in St. Louis' Greater Ville neighborhood around 9:30 a.m.

Police said a family member found 41-year-old Tyra Shannon and 16-year-old Lawrence Strawbridge dead from stab wounds. Another one of Shannon's sons, 21-year-old Darquise Gowdy, was inside the house at the time police arrived and was taken into custody.

Neighbors say Strawbridge was known for mowing lawns in the area and was a student at Lafayette High School. He had his own business which makes the incident all the more upsetting to neighbors.

“It’s shocking. To be honest, people don’t love themselves no more. And a lot of people are on drugs now,” said Michelle Douglas, a neighbor.

Wednesday morning, Gowdy was charged with two counts of murder first, two counts of armed criminal action and a violation of order of protection. He is being held on a $850,000 cash-only bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
