ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – An investigation is underway after an infant died at a trailer park on the northeast side of Alton Friday morning.
Police were on the scene 100 block of Tara Court, the home of a babysitter, gathering evidence and speaking to neighbors.
A preliminary autopsy shows there are no signs of trauma to the 8-month-old child and investigators believe the death was an accident.
There were eight other children from ages 9 months through 17-years-old at the home, none of them were hurt.
Authorities say the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has opened an investigation of possible neglect. The investigation is focusing on the mother and babysitter.
No charges are expected to be filed at this time.
