GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A Granite City man is facing charges for allegedly shooting his neighbor’s dog.

William Brown, 62, is charged aggravated cruelty to animals, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault.

Brown is accused of shooting his neighbor’s 6-year-old bulldog named Donte on Wednesday evening. The neighbor told police his 3-year-old child was playing with Donte in the backyard and then the child came inside.

Two minutes later, the neighbor said he heard shots fired and then saw Donte bleeding near the home’s back door.

The neighbor then went into the backyard and saw Brown allegedly holding a gun. Police believe Brown pointed a gun at him and then fled the scene. The neighbor then called police.

Officers later spotted Brown in a car near the scene and pulled him over. They arrested him and say they found a handgun on him and a rifle in his car.

Brown is being held in the Madison County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Donte was taken to an animal hospital and euthanized because of the severity of his injuries.
