ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A teenager from East St. Louis is facing charges after being accused of stealing a car and personal belongings from a Brentwood man last month.

Montel Harkins, 17, allegedly robbed the victim of his car and other items on June 17 on Sonora Avenue. The vehicle was recovered on June 20 in East St. Louis, police said.

Ten days after the vehicle was discovered, a similar crime occurred in Rock Hill on Pocahontas Avenue, according to officials. Authorities said investigators suspect Harkins committed both crimes.

After being taken into custody, the suspect reportedly admitted being involved in the robbery on Sonora Avenue. He is also a suspect in crimes involving neighboring towns.

Harkins has been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He is currently in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center.
