SOUTH ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A south St. Louis woman says she has not slept for a week because of an ear-splitting noise coming from next door.

Earline Johnson says her neighbors are running a generator morning, noon and night for nine days straight.

“What I felt like doing was getting a sledge hammer and hammering that generator,” said Johnson.

Johnson says she is sick of the annoying, loud noise. She says she can not sleep.

“I've spoken with them, I've tried to reason with them to let them know they got containers you can put generators in that's sound proof. They didn't want to do that,” said Johnson.

After Johnson contacted News 4 about the situation, News 4 went to her neighbor’s house, but there was no answer.

Johnson complained to police. Authorities say they were called to the house and notified the nuisance property unit.

The city’s building division says if you live in a home, you must have a permanent power source, so a generator is not allowed.

Authorities say an inspector will be to the house in the morning on July 27.
