ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Officers with the St. Louis County Police Department are investigating a baby's death.

Police said officers were called to a home in the 2500 block of Pershall Road for a sick case around 8:35 a.m. Wednesday. When police arrived, they found 21-month-old John Wilbourne suffering from injuries to his head and torso.

The child was rushed to a St. Louis-area hospital, where he died.

According to court documents, Wilbourne had extensive abdominal injuries that were not accidental, a large tear in his liver and a substantial amount of blood in his abdomen. The Medical Examiner said the injuries were caused by child abuse.

The child’s mother told police her son seemed fine when she left the home around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Thursday morning, 45-year-old Vincent Jones was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for Wilbourne’s death. His cash-only bond was set at $500,000.
