ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A “person of interest” in connection to a homicide in Alton was taken into custody for questioning overnight.

Larry Northcutt, Jr., 27, is considered a “person of interest” in the death of 29-year-old Christopher Gernigin, who police believe was killed near the Clark Bridge on July 23.

According to police, Northcutt was taken into custody after troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and detectives from the Alton Police Department set up a perimeter and converged on a house in the 1100 block of West Ninth Street around 7:15 p.m., three hours after police identified him as a "person of interest."

Alton Police Chief Jason "Jake" Simmons  told News 4 tips from the public helped to track Northcutt down.

Northcutt has not been charged with a crime, but was considered armed and dangerous, police said.
