CAHOKIA (KMOV.com) -

Authorities have located the car of an elderly man who was the victim of a home invasion in Cahokia.

Officers said a relative of the victim called police to a home on Agnes Avenue around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. The relative found the victim inside the home after he was shot in the leg. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.

“A victim has a gunshot wound and his car is missing so we are classifying this as a home invasion and robbery at this moment,” said Detective Joseph Agles with the Cahokia Police Department.

Home invasions are rare in Cahokia, police said.

“They are rare, something like maybe two home invasions that I'm aware of in the five years that I've been here,” said Agles.

The victim’s black 2013 Ford Fusion was reportedly taken during the home invasion. It was later found abandoned on the west side of Belleville, according to police.
