Fire engulfs home, spreads to 2 others in North City

NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A fire that engulfed a vacant home in north St. Louis spread to two other nearby buildings Monday.

The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of Greer. The home that caught on fire is vacant, and was fully engulfed in flames.

The blaze then spread to a home on either side, both of which were not as heavily damaged as the initial home.

Nobody was injured. The cause is under investigation.

It was one of three fires put out by firefighters in St. Louis City Monday. Another fire, which occurred in the 3600 block of Missouri in South City. Firefighters are trying to determine if it is suspicious.

Authorities and residents say there have been a string of suspicious fires in and around the Benton Park neighborhood.

Another fire later broke out at a vacant home on Taft near Gravois around 9 p.m. It is unclear what caused that blaze.

"Our investigators on scene its very early on in the operation. what the neighbors tell us concern us an explosion of sorts and some of the evidence we found that lets us know there was a rapid deployment of energy we're going to look into a few different things here," said St. Louis Fire Capt. Garon Mosby. 

The blaze eventually spread to two neighboring homes, forcing five adults and one child to be displaced. No one was injured during the fire.
