HILLSDALE, Mo. ( – Thirty new affordable homes are being built in the City of Hillsdale.

The project is based on the 24:1 initiative, which aims to help the Normandy School District. The 24 stands for the number of municipalities in the school district’s boundary and the one stands for the vision to create strong communities and successful children.

Beyond Housing, which started the initiative, built about 37 homes in Hillsdale three years ago, then, just last year, they built a movie theater in Pagedale.  The group is working to get other companies to invest in the area, which is why they encouraged the Rubicon Corporation to build the new homes in Hillsdale.

The new homes are affordable housing, meaning families will have a chance to buy the homes with the help of federal and state tax credits.

“Home is, yes, what you come home to every night, like this beautiful new home here. But home is the life in and around where you live, so if we can improve these, yes, improve the house stocks, but if we can also make life better for families and if we can help make neighborhoods better then that’s going to help the school districts be successful as well,” said Chris Krehmeyer, President and CEO of Beyond Housing.

Two families have already moved into the homes and five more will move in by the end of month. The goal is to have all 30 homes occupied by the end of the year.
