FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The fifth Ferguson 1000 Hiring Event will take place this weekend.

The event started nearly two years ago, following the unrest in the area, with a focus to create jobs, which organizers said gets to the roots of the problems in the community. So far, the event has been successful.

When the Ferguson 1000 Hiring Event began, it was in a small church in Ferguson with 17 companies and 200 people. The latest event will have more than 1000 companies and over 1000 people are expected to attend. At least 100 people will be hired on the spot, organizers said.

“There is no better feeling, we saw one lady who just got out of the halfway house, had no clothes, and we were able to work with the probation parole office to take her to get clothes, bring her back to the hiring event and she was hired on the spot,” said event co-founder Dr. Lane McCarthy. “She was in tears, and nothing like that at all”

The event will begin with a reception and lecture series Friday night. The hiring event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
