ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A Warrenton man who was shot during a robbery in St. Louis in 2012 died from injuries sustained in the shooting, a medical examiner ruled earlier this week.

Police said Christopher Dutton, who was 36 at the time of the shooting, died on March 9, 2016.

Dutton was shot during a robbery in the 4100 block of Union on August 9, 2012. Police said he was able to flag down an officer patrolling in the area and said he was shot.  Dutton was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest and was listed in stable condition.

The suspect, Jonathan Leaks, was taken into custody at the scene by responding officers.  He was charged with robbery and assault on August 10, 2012.

Police say Dutton died as a result of pneumonia due to a gunshot wound to the chest. The incident has since been reclassified as a homicide.
