ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – One of the picks on Hillary Clinton’s short list for vice president will be in Olivette to talk about the opioid epidemic Thursday.

Fighting opioid abuse has been a top priority for the Obama Administration. The President appointed Tom Vilsack, who reportedly watched his mother down several pills trying to take her own life, to lead the fight against opioids.

Vilsack is calling on congress to pass funding to help give resources to turn the tide on the issue. The budget proposes a $1.1 billion in funding, which would mean Missouri would be eligible for up to $17 million over two years.

In May, News 4 reported on how Missouri was the only state without a prescription drug monitoring program. St. Louis County and City have implemented their own monitoring program.

Vilsack will be in Olivette for a private round table starting at 10:30 a.m.
