ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – At least one of the trolley cars for the new Delmar Loop Trolley was vandalized with graffiti before it even made it on the tracks.

The old trolley cars were purchased from Seattle and Portland. Alex Price noticed the vandalism while he was riding the MetroLink near downtown St. Louis.

“It was kind of a disappointment I guess," said Price. “I was like really?"

Joe Edwards, Chairman of the Loop Trolley Transportation Development District said the cars were already scheduled to be repainted before they are put in operation.

“It didn't hurt the project at all and it won't cost anything because we are going to paint over them anyway,” said Edwards.

Edwards said it is very important to prevent vandalism and other incidents on the trolley in the future. He said surveillance cameras already lining the Delmar Loop will be used to keep a close eye on the tracks. Also, cameras could be installed inside each trolley car.

Within the next few months the cars will be sent off to be repainted. The Loop Trolley will be open to the public in the spring of 2017.
