ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Pokémon Go player says while he was playing the popular game, he came across a woman in distress.

"I was terrified. I didn't know what to do," said Dustin Blevins, Pokémon Go player.

Blevins says on July 18 he was at his usual Poké Stop, right up the street from his home.

"I hang out with all my neighbors up there and ironically I was hanging out by myself and I just couldn't believe it had happened," said Blevins. "A lady came screaming out of her house, she had a bunch of bags in her hand running down the street and a guy was following her.”

Blevins says he first thought the people were joking around, but that was not the case.

"As the guy caught up with the girl, he football tackled her in the middle of the street," said Blevins.

Blevins says the woman yelled to call 911.

"I charged towards him to tackle him to get him off her and I got about 10 feet from him and I realized he had a gun in his hand," said Blevins.

Blevins says he backed off, ran home and called police.

Authorities say Blevins stumbled upon an assault in progress while playing the game.

"I was terrified. I didn't know what to do. Your natural instinct is you help whoever is in trouble," said Blevins.

Blevins says he usually never plays Pokémon Go alone and knew playing alone could be risky.

"My family knew exactly where I was and what time I was going back. Anything could have happened but at least I knew and I, as an adult, decided to take this risk," said Blevins.

As of July 19, police say no charges have been filed in this case.
