ST. LOUIS ( – A St. Louis County Councilman is among the 52 delegates from Missouri in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention this week.

Mark Harder was elected from the Second Congressional District to be a delegate. Initially, he said he was a Ted Cruz supporter, but when Donald Trump won the primary in March he switched gears.

“That’s probably the best part of this is that I get to be part of history and it can be very enlightening to see what people are doing around the country to meet a lot of people a lot of good conservatives from around the country and that should be a lot of fun as well,” said Harder.

Harder told News 4 he is hoping the convention will help unify the Republican Party.

The convention will be the second Chris Howard, Harder’s legislative assistant, will attend. He said he is not worried about his safety because of the amount of officers that will be in the area.

“You’re literally walled off in a city within a city. If you have your credentials you can go anywhere within the zone,” Howard said. “They have enough police and agents and weaponry and protection, you’ve never been more protected in your whole life.”
