Police looking for leads after 6 St. Louis churches vandalized

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The St. Louis Police Department is asking for help locating the individuals responsible for vandalizing area churches.

Between June 30 and July 6 authorities received six reports of vandalism.

Between June 30 and July 2, stained glass windows were broken, words were carved in steel and eggs were thrown at the front of the St. James AME Church at 4301 St. Ferdinand.

During a similar time frame, a building at 5017 Washington Place that previously was the home to Temple Israel House sustained fire damage and had graffiti on the shed and building.

During the overnight hours on July 1, words were scratched into doors and several windows were broken at the Kennerly Temple Child Center, located at 4259 West Kennerly.

On July 5, a fire caused significant damage and spray paint was found inside the Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at 5503 Gilmore.

Also on July 5, St. Elizabeth Mother of John the Baptist at 4330 Shreve had their large statute of Mary broken and spray paint on the door.

Lastly, police were called to the Church of Christ at 2701 Shenandoah on July 6 for reports of an attempted arson and spray paint.

The incidents are currently being investigated by the Regional Bomb & Arson Unit, The SLMPD Intelligence Division, FBI and ATF.
