ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The uncle of a man accused of shooting a Ballwin police officer spoke to News 4 following the suspect’s first court appearance Monday.

Reginald Holmes was at the St. Louis County Justice Center with other family members of Antonio Taylor for his arraignment.

“We just heard it on the news, following it on the news, and I haven’t really had a chance to speak with him to see what happened, that’s why we are out here today,” Holmes said.

Taylor is accused of shooting a Ballwin police officer Friday morning during a traffic stop. The officer, identified as Mike Flamion, was critically injured when he was shot in the neck in the 300 block of New Ballwin Road around 11 a.m.

“I don’t know, I have a lot of questions in my head, like what happened, we want to try to find out what happened,” said Holmes.

Holmes told News 4 his family is praying for Flamion and his family. They also apologized for the suspect’s alleged actions.

“We apologize, we deeply apologize for his family. We’re praying for him, we hope he gets better,” said Holmes.

“I give him and his family our condolences and let him know that we are very deeply sorry and we hope that he pulls through,” Taylor’s cousin, Marie, said.

During his court appearance, Taylor disclosed that he did not have an attorney and asked about representing himself. His bond was set at $500,000. His next court date is scheduled for July 27.
