DESOTO, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Two men are facing charges for their alleged role in a standoff in De Soto on July 5.

Darren Pilch and Shane Politte are each charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, child endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon.

Shortly after 8 a.m. police received a call from a home located at the end of 3rd Street and Lake Street. During the call, a dispatcher reportedly heard gunshots.

Chief Rick Draper, DeSoto Police Department said, “While they [officers] were talking to the neighbor, the officers began hearing some shots and they believed that the shots were coming in their direction."

SWAT teams from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Highway Patrol were called to the scene.

More than 100 shots were fired and some neighbors were evacuated, but others decided to hide in their home, police said.

The standoff ended around 11 a.m. when hostage negotiators were able to diffuse the life-threatening situation and Pilch and Polite surrendered peacefully.

The Missouri Department of Social Services/Family Services have been called to take care of a boy, 10, who also lived in the home.

No injuries were reported.
