ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -
St. Louis Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist is heading to the 15-day disabled list due to illness.
Siegrist, who is one of the three pitchers taking over closing duties for Trevor Rosenthal, is being sent to the DL because of mononucleosis, or mono.
In his stead, the Cardinals recalled Sam Tuivailala from the (AAA) Memphis Redbirds. Tuivailala will join the Cardinals roster in time for tonight's match-up against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cardinals said in the press release.
Tuivailala is 2-1 this season with Memphis and has 13 saves in 16 opportunities. His ERA currently stands at 5.06.
He pitched 15.2 innings with the Cardinals through 2014 and 2015, where his ERA stood at 5.17.
