Superintendents from across Illinois hold emergency meeting Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

VANDALIA, Ill. ( – Superintendents from school districts across Illinois held an emergency meeting in Vandalia Wednesday.

The lack of a budget agreement between lawmakers and Gov. Bruce Rauner is threatening to shut schools across the state down.

While school officials met, the governor was in Springfield trying to work out a short term budget deal with lawmakers that would fund majority of the state government. The Democrats’ plan would send near $400 million extra to public schools in Chicago, but Gov. Rauner’s plan would send no extra money to the area.

If a budget is not passed by Friday many school districts do not know if they will be able to begin the 2016-2017 school year on time.
