Some cities allow shooting off fireworks during limited hours

WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Several St. Louis-area towns are trying to find a compromise between people who want to shoot off fireworks anytime and those who want a complete ban.

Both Wentzville and Warrenton will allow people to shoot off fireworks during a five-hour period on July 4, from 5:00 p.m. until 10:0 p.m.

Wentzville is allowing fireworks during limited hours on July 4 for the second straight year.  If you are caught shooting off fireworks in Wentzville outside of the designated five-hour window, you could face a summons and your fireworks could be confiscated.

“The important thing to remember is you can’t do it on public streets or sidewalks, it has to be in your driveway or yard. Have consideration for your neighbors. It’s a very divisive issue, people either like ‘em or they don’t,” said Major Paul West with the Wentzville Police Department.

When Wentzville first decided to implement its policy on fireworks, it led to some passionate debates on social media.
