FLORISSANT, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A suspect was arrested in Florissant after he attempted to run from a police officer who saw him placing a cover over his face while sitting in a business parking lot.

The Florissant police officer said he was on patrol during the overnight hours when he saw Tyrunne Johnson sitting in a business parking lot putting a cover over his face and starting to enter a business. When the suspect saw the officer, he reentered his vehicle and drove out of sight.

A short time later, the officer said he saw Johnson at another gas station placing a cover over his face. When the officer pulled onto the parking lot, the suspect drove off again.

The officer then attempted a suspicious vehicle stop, but the suspect drove away, leading the officer on a short chase. During the chase, the suspect exited his vehicle and ran away from the officer.

While the suspect was running away, the officer reported seeing him remove a handgun from his waistband and throw it to the ground.  When the officer took Johnson into custody he recovered the gun.

According to officials, Johnson said he ran because he had a gun.

Johnson has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and felony resisting arrest.
