ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

An Alton mechanic believes a bullet punctured the side of his car restoration business when someone fired celebratory gun shots.

Bill Anton, who owns A+ Automotive, says the bullet entered the building near where his office manager would have been standing if the gun had gone off during regular business hours.

“If somebody had been hit by the bullet, it could’ve done some serious damage. It’s scary to be out and about and have some things flying out of the sky and perhaps it’s going to hit you. It’s frustrating and fact of the matter is that it’s scary,” said Anton.

Anton believes the person responsible was firing celebratory shots into the air, something that is common around July 4. Law enforcement is warning people to not fire such shots.
