NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Thieves stole AC units from the Griot Museum of Black History in north St. Louis recently.

The museum director, Lois Conley, told News 4 the AC units have been stolen since 2011 during the summer and said high temperatures inside the building are not good for many of the artifacts.

The thermostat read 89 degrees on June 22.

“They are already fragile, so that type of environmental condition on a long term basis is not going to be good for them,” said Conley. “It’s embarrassing that our community still resorts to these types of things.”

People visiting the museum are welcomed by signs explaining the AC units were stolen. The museum will remain open without AC.

No arrests have been made in any of thefts.
