FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A 21-year-old Villa Ridge man is in custody after he allegedly refused to stop for authorities and crashed into another vehicle.

Austin Hassell was driving on Highway V near the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office when a deputy attempted to conducted a traffic stop around 4:15 p.m. Monday. After refusing to stop, Hassell turned onto St. Louis Rock Road and continued, eventually swerving and striking an oncoming vehicle.

The four people in the other vehicle, a mother and three children, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Hassell suffered a broken leg and other injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to authorities, the suspect was on probation and had a suspended license at the time of the incident. He also had two felony no bond warrants for probation violation from other counties, officials said.

The sheriff’s office said charges for resisting arrest and assault will be sought.
