EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

A closed rest stop near Edwardsville is the target of graffiti artists.

The closed down Homestead Rest Area is located on I-55 just north of Edwardsville. It is one of many targets in the St. Louis area that have been hit by graffiti artists.

“It gives a poor impression for anybody visiting our state,” said one person.

IDOT has closed several rest areas around the state as budget problems continue. An Illinois state senator described the fund for roads as a “mess.”

Some say the rest stop is turning into a symbol of the state’s problems.

IDOT officials did not return repeated calls from News 4.
