ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Police say they have reported more than 150 cases of cars getting their windows shattered in St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis in mid-June.
The latest incidents happened as Maplewood and St. Louis Hills residents woke up to the unpleasant surprise on June 20.
Police say it appears someone is going around with a BB gun or a pellet gun and shooting car windows while leaving valuables inside and untouched.
News 4 confirmed reports of the destruction at the corner of St. Elmo Avenue and Oxford Boulevard along with the 6300 block of Bancroft Avenue. Police say there were others over the third weekend of June as well.
“I’m like really? Really? It’s just plain meanness,” said Doug Cockrell after he had his truck’s rear window broken.
“No sense of values, no morals,” said another victim, Rick Ellsworth. “All they’re doing is causing people grief and unnecessary property damage. Most of these people are hardworking people. They can’t afford to keep replacing windows all the time.”
Police say they are interviewing a couple suspects in connection to the crimes. They also mention they have some security video they are looking over to put an end to this senseless crime.
